Abstract:

We have performed numerical simulations of the rise and emergence of untwisted toroidal flux ropes and studied the physics of the emergence process. We developed techniques to understand the development of magnetohydrodynamic instabilities responsible for the appearance of some active regions on the Sun. In addition, we modelled the process of energy injection and release in active regions, and analyzed the consequences of this process for the heating of the solar atmosphere. We combined magnetohydrodynamic and thermodynamic modeling in an entirely new and novel manner to study both the processes of magnetic energy storage and release, as well as the solar plasmas response to the magnetic field dynamics.
