Explosion Physics
Abstract:
This selection deals mathematically with the cumulative effect of shape charges and the jets formed from the metal liners of such charges. The cumulative effect obtained offers an appreciable increase in the local penetration action of the explosion. The effect is brought about by using charges which have a cavity on one of the ends. If such a charge is initiated from the opposite end, the explosive effect in the direction of the cavity axis is found to be much greater than if ordinary charges are used. It was established experimentally that if the surface of a cumulative cavity is covered with a relatively thin metal facing(liner), the armor-piercing action of the cumulative charge is increased many times.
