Abstract:

A digital program is developed to assist the engineer in preparing a problem for solution on an analog computer. The program is based on a problem input which consists of a first-order system of homogeneous linear equations with constant coefficients in matrix form, and the maximum values of the problem variables. The program implements procedures to examine the system coefficient matrix in order to check the input for compatibility with program limitations; amplitude- and time-scale the problem to fit the computer equipment used; assign additional amplifiers to eliminate integrator output loading effects and form the required negative integrator outputs; calculate potentiometer gain settings; and specify the assignment of integrators, amplifiers, and potentiometers necessary for the solution of the problem. The output of the digital computer is in the form of printed data which includes explicit instructions for wiring integrators, amplifiers, and potentiometer settings; time- and amplitude-scale factors; and data to correlate the information with the original problem.
