High Water Marks of the Halloween Coastal Storm October 1991,
Abstract:
This report documents the location and elevation of approximately 200 high water marks taken after the Halloween Northeaster of October 1991 and the high water marks were taken from the coast of Kennebunkport, Maine down to Nantucket, Massachusetts. The report contains photographs, descriptions, and location maps for all of the high water marks which were recovered. The maps show the location of both the Halloween Storm of 1991 and the Blizzard of 1978 high water marks. High water marks and their corresponding elevations, referenced to either the National Geodetic Vertical Datum NGVD, or Mean Lower Low Water MLLW are listed in Table 1 - Summary of High Water Marks. The high water marks are meant to be an estimation of still water elevation however, some are due to ponding, overtopping and wave run-up which are not representative of ocean still water levels.
