Abstract:

Welcome to the Hydrologic Engineering Centers River Analysis System HEC-RAS. This software allows you to perform one-dimensional steady flow, unsteady flow, and sediment transport calculations. The current version of HEC-RAS only supports one-dimensional, steady flow, water surface profile calculations. This manual specifically documents the hydraulic capabilities of the Steady flow portion of HEC-RAS. Documentation for unsteady flow and sediment transport calculations will be made available as these features are added to the HEC-RAS. This chapter discusses the general philosophy of HEC-RAS and gives you a brief overview of the hydraulic capabilities of the modeling system. Documentation for HEC-RAS is discussed, as well as an overview of this manual.
