Composite Event Specification and Detection for Supporting Active Capability in an OODBMS: Semantics Architecture and Implementation.

Abstract:

This effort is a result of a jointly-funded agreement between NAVYNCCOSC and USAFRome Laboratory in the area of intelligent knowledge base systems. During the last decade, database management systems DBMSs have evolved considerably to meet the requirements of emerging applications. One of those requirements is to represent real world situations as part of the database, and to monitor and react to them automatically without use of application intervention. Making a database system active entails not only developing an expressive event specification language with well-defined semantics and algorithms for the detection of composite events, but also an architecture for an event detector along with its implementation. This report extends earlier work on event specification language and provides the semantics of composite events over a global event-history or a global event-log.
