Abstract:

Several major events have affected the current situation in Turkey. For example, there are more democratic and free market instructions and values many areas historically trapped in conflict are moving towards peace economic and political freedom has reached Central and Eastern Europe Russias threat of expansionism has all but diminished and the nuclear war has all but subsided vital oil is secure and finally, most of the world recognizes the negatives associated with communism. The threat of global conflict is reduced, but the potential for very destructive conflicts between nations exist on a greater scale. The collapse of the former Soviet Union has directly impacted the strategic environment that the world has experienced for the last forty plus years. For example, reduction in the arsenals maintained in the WARSAW PACT countries has been greatly reduced. This new world order has directly and indirectly affected the situation in Turkey. This paper will address a number of concerns in Turkey. A major portion of the paper will be devoted to the current situation in Turkey followed by a discussion of Turkish Security, the people of Turkey, the Haves and Have Nots in Turkey, religion in Turkey, the Kurds, and finally, water in the region.
