Fracture Behaviour Under Impact 2
Abstract:
The behaviour of cracks loaded by impact generated stress pulses is investigated. Depending on the impact arrangement tension or shear loading at extremely high rates of the stress intensity factor can be realized. With specimens of a high strength steel increase of the tensile fracture decreasing to about 5us. This has been measured with an improved shadow optical technique in reflection. The assumption of an incubation time is used to explain this behaviour.
