Effects of Various Levee Alignments and Grades on 1973 and Project Design Flowlines in the Red-Ouachita-Black River Basin.
Abstract:
This study was conducted on the Vicksburg-to-Baton Rouge reach of the Mississippi Basin Model, a fixed-bed model of the Mississippi River and its tributaries built to a horizontal scale of 1 to 2,000 and a vertical scale of 1 to 100. The tests were conducted to determine what effect various alignments of project levees would have on the flow line of the 1973 flood and the Ouachita River Project Design OPD flood meeting the 1945 flood. Results of the study will be used to assist personnel of the Vicksburg District in determining the optimum location and grade of these levees.
