Adsorption of Oxygen on Pt (111) and Its Reactivity to Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide.
Abstract:
Oxygen was found to adsorb on Pt111 with an initial sticking coefficient of 0.048 or - .006 and linear adsorption kinetics. The surface saturated at an oxygen to platinum ratio of 14. The reactivity of adsorbed oxygen to hydrogen and CO was determined from steady state oxygen coverages for H2-O2 and CO-O2 mixtures. From the reactivity data which show reaction probabilities of 1.0 for CO and 12 for H2 over a wide range of oxygen coverages, it is concluded that both H2 and CO are reactive in mobile states which are probably the precursors to adsorption.
