Abstract:

The overall objective of the work done under this contract is to determine the feasibility of using solitons, rather than sinusoidal wavetrains, as the basic building blocks in a theory of water waves. The goal of devising such a revised description is to model phenomena that occur over longer time scales than can be adequately described in terms of sinusoidal wavetrains.
