AN ANALYSIS OF THE SPLIT HOPKINSON PRESSURE BAR
Abstract:
The purpose of the paper is to analyze in detail many of the assumptions and techniques often employed to obtain stress-strain relations at rates of strain of approximately 1000sec. The effects of axial wave propagation and interaction detail in short cylindrical specimens on the resulting stress-strain relation were evaluated in detail. The effect of specimen geometry on the end effects associated with friction was demonstrated both theoretically and experimentally.
