Abstract:

As the Marine Corps shifts to the Pacific to meet national strategic goals, Marine artillery will undergo significant changes as it integrates with the Navy to counter the Anti-Access/ Area-Denial (A2/AD) threat posed by China in the Western Pacific arena. To better integrate the Navy-Marine Corps team to execute emerging concepts such as Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO) and Distributed Operations (DO) in a contested littoral environment, the Marine Corps will have to evolve the way it trains artillery. As the Marine Corps embraces more technologically advanced weapon systems in its Long Range Precision Fires (LRPF) program, it has the opportunity to relocate the Marine Corps Artillery Detachment at Fort Sill to better facilitate the integration and partnership necessary with the Navy to address the challenges and capabilities inherent in the emerging weapons platforms the Marine Corps is adopting to counter the new challenges the US is facing.
