The Few, The Proud, The Minorities
Abstract:
The Marine Corps has a history of refuting orders that it feels will negatively impact the effectiveness of its combat lethality. This attitude is a derivative of the hyper-masculine culture that the predominantly white male organization perpetuates. The culture of the Marine Corps harbors bias that results in natural segregation of the "in group" and "out group." This is visibly and statistically identifiable amongst the senior officer ranks (O4-O10) in the Marine Corps where African Americans make up 4.8% of this population and women account for 6.4% of the population.
