Marine Corps Officer Promotions: Reinforcing Timeless Characteristics and Modifying Existing Policy and Procedures to Dominate in Complex Environments
Abstract:
As the Marine Corps looks to maintain and increase organizational capacity in an evolving operating environment, key leaders are directing assessments to examine the effectiveness of current promotion and retention systems. In order to attract and retain the best and brightest officers, the Corps must consider updating current evaluation and promotion practices and policies to best utilize existing talent and retain those with the highest potential. Existing policies and systems are not broken, and no wholesale replacements are needed. Instead, modification of the utilization of existing programs can close gaps in accessed performance and build further confidence in the organization amongst those officers who serve.
