Deep Penetration Operations Past and Future
Abstract:
During WWII a special operations group known as the Chindits conducted Operation Longcloth deep behind Japanese lines in Burma. The operation was a psychological victory, but came at a huge cost in men and material. This report uses this example to examine how technology can offset the costs of men and material in deep penetration operations. Analysis demonstrates that the most effective method to offset costs is combining animals and new technology in manned-unmanned-animal teaming.
