Abstract:

On April 20, 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) unanimously approved a controversial application by Ligado Networks, a U.S. satellite communications company, to deploy a terrestrial nationwide network using L-Band radio spectrum. Ligados stated intent is to offer a combined satellite and terrestrial communications network that will enable other telecommunications carriers to deploy 5G services and provide wireless internet to support industrial networks.
