Abstract:

This report is intended to provide an example-based understanding of how a Gleeble thermal-mechanical physical process simulator can contribute to alloy development via a High-Throughput Materials Design approach. Typically, a Gleeble is not considered high throughput because it only outputs one test result per sample; that is, you can only perform one mechanical test or one rolling simulation per sample. However, through the application of thermal gradients a Gleeble can create many different and distinct microstructures within one sample during one test. This report presents a quick demonstration of the steps needed to develop a microstructural library using 1018 steel as an example material.
