New Silicone Technologies for Flame Retardant Wire Constructions,

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: ADP005288 | Need Help?

Abstract:

Spawned out of heightened awareness regarding flammability, toxic emissions, and smoke density, a multi-faceted development program was initiated. Fundamental to these efforts was the investigation of alternative routes to satisfy the stringent demands on wire and cable through the utilization of silicone technology. Combining silicone and non-silicone technologies has provided three 3 materials 1 a silicone based FR-additive for thermoplastics with major value to polyolefins such as polypropylene, polyethylene and ethylene vinyl acetate, 2 a silicone polyimide copolymer which is a non-halogen, inherently flame retardant thermoplastic and 3 an exceptionally thin glass-mica tape for light weight constructions of which the silicone acts as the binder resin.
