Evolution of Behavioral Science in Security Management,
Abstract:
Security over the years developed a poor image because of the conduct of personnel in security organizations and because of many examples reported internally in the news media of a disregard for human rights in the name of security involving electronic surveillance, spying on individuals and the improper use of money and sex. The distasteful and clumsy conduct of those involved in the Watergate incident identified as security personnel is just one example. Going back further in history, the abuses perpetrated by the late Senator Joseph McCarthy in the early 1950s under the guise of security are generally recalled as a national disgrace. The publicized poor performance of contract guards has also made an unfavorable contribution. As a result, it can generally be concluded that the poor image of security that had developed over the years resulted in large measure because of a past disregard for human relationships and for the rights of individuals.
