Blood Substitute and Method of Making.
Abstract:
This invention relates to blood substitutes, and methods for their preparation. More particularly, it relates to a novel composition which can be administered to human patients as a blood substitute by transfusion. Hemoglobin-containing vesicles suitable for use as red blood cell substitutes in artificial blood are prepared by extruding a suspension of hemoglobin, a saturated neutral lipid, a sterol, and optionally, a charged lipid through a filter of suitable pore size.
