Abstract:

Unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine UDMH is prepared in a four stage process in which ammonia is reacted with chlorine in the vapor phase in the first stage to produce chloramine in the second stage the chloramine is absorbed in an organic solvent in the third stage the chloramine solution is reacted with liquid dimethylamine and the UDMH is isolated in pure form from the reaction mixture in the fourth stage.
