Comparison of Vee-Type and Conventional Tail Surfaces in Combinations with Fuselage and Wing in the Variable-Density Tunnel
Abstract:
Measurements of pitching and yawing moments of a Vee-type and of a conventional type empennage were made in the presence of wing and wing-fuselage to determine their moments. Vee-tail with a dihedral angle of 35.3 degrees was 71 as effective in pitching as conventional tail, and its ratio of yaw moment to pitch moment was 0.3. Fuselage interference reduced measured moments 15 to 25 of calculated values.
