Comparison of Norethindrone-Containing OCPs to Desogestrel OCPs and Depo-Provera in Women
Abstract:
This prospective, longitudinal study examines contraceptive outcomes among active-duty military and civilian women who receive one of three different methods of contraception Depo-Provera, Ortho-Novum 135 and Ortho-Cept. Outcomes to be examined include method continuation, satisfaction, dysmenorrhea, menstrual bleeding, pregnancy rates, bone density and plasma lipids. This summary report details the specific activities that have occurred during Year 4 of finding September 23, 1999 to September 22, 2000. According to the SOW, 3 major objectives and related tasks were to be addressed during this period. Significant progress across each major objective was achieved. A total of 386 women 183 at WHMC and 203 at UTMB were successfully enrolled and completed their initial visit. Followup visits at 3-, 6-,. 12-, 18-, and 24-months have been conducted on 319, 262, 191, 166 and 129 subjects respectively. Preliminary analyses for data up to the 12-month visit has begun. In addition, 2 abstracts presented to major gynecologic societies have resulted from thisproject during year 4.
