Tri-ELISA for Simultaneous Analysis of Three Analytes.
Abstract:
The goal of this research effort is to develop a three-enzyme ELISA system in which three malarial analytes can be quantitated concurrently from a single biological sample. During the Phase I effort, we were able to develop a non-quantitative tri-ELISA that was capable of differentiating between three plasmodium antigensantibodies previously identified and optimized by Dr. Robert Wirtz at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. During this Phase II effort, we expect to improve and optimize the system, and provide both antibody pre-coated microplates, as well as final kits for analysis by Dr. Wirtz. The resulting system will provide an efficient and potentially productive approach for improving an existing diagnostic assay for malarial sporozoites in mosquitos. Re-improved assay can be used by the World Health Organization for epidemiological studies designed to monitor, and through preventative mechanisms, potentially eradicate a disease which currently threatens greater than 56 of the worlds population.
