Abstract:

A test program was conducted to demonstrate the effects of short term elevated temperature exposure in excess of normal service temperature on the tensile properties of various alloys. Tests were performed at numerous points on the temperature profiles 1 on heating at various temperatures until the peak temperature were reached, 2 on cooling at various temperatures below the peak temperatures, and 3 at room temperature, after exposure. The peak temperatures were held for time periods of 1 second, 60 seconds and 900 seconds. The materials tested were PH15-7Mo, Ti6Al-4V, Ti6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo, Inconel 718, 321 Stainless Steel and AF1410.
