Crash Rescue and Fire Fighting Concepts for Expeditionary Airfields

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: ADB001631 | Open PDF

Abstract:

Crash rescue requirements for Marine Corps VSTOL expeditionary airfields have been developed based on the specific needs and the constraints of minimal logistic burden. Helicopters are determined to be essential for off-base crash rescue, but they are generally too slow to result in life-saving benefits in case of major crash fires. Helicopters are therefore not recommended for involvement with fire fighting. The overall crash rescue concepts for both on- base and off-base situations are summarized.
