Effect of the High Temperature Normalizing Treatment Upon the Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Alloy Gun Steels Cast of Alloy Steel Ingots.
Abstract:
The object of this report is to investigate the effect of a 2200 deg F. normalizing treatment upon the microstructure and mechanical properties of alloy gun steels cast as 900 no. ingots. Conclusions shows 1 The effect of the high temperature normalizing treatment upon the impact properties of cast material is inconclusive. 2 High temperature normalizing treatment appreciably improves the reduction of area of tensile tests if followed by a standard anneal. 3 The high temperature normalizing treatment tends to break up dendritic segregation to some extent and diffuses the segregate to a small degree.
