A System for Collation of Environmental Data.
Abstract:
A workable system for collating and storing environmental data has been developed for the use of Research and Engineering agencies, as well as for military planners. The various environmental elements included in this system are defined in this report, and the code employed to convert these data to punched cards is given here to facilitate coordinated implementation of the system and convenient utilization of Quartermaster Corps card decks by other agencies. In addition to providing rapid retrieval of available data, this system points directly to areas lacking environmental information, and specifies the types of data missing from the record. The development of new techniques for interpolation and extrapolation of known data into neighboring areas where data records are incomplete, is stimulated by the needs for data shown in this collation. The system is sufficiently flexible to permit the addition of new types of information as needed.
