Abstract:

Location of the Proposed Action Beale Air Force Base AFB is located in Yuba County approximately 40 miles north of the city of Sacramento, California and 12 miles east of the City of Marysville. A Child Development Center CDC is proposed for construction in the main administrative area of the base. Purpose and Need The proposed project would construct a new larger childcare facility located in a centralized area of the base. The purpose of the CDC is to provide quality care and education in a safe learning environment for active duty dependent children. The Department of Defense DOD goal is to provide for 80 percent of active duty childcare needs. The current facility was constructed in 1967 with a capacity of 153 children. Currently, families must use alternative child care services and are often burdened with significantly higher costs. In addition, the closest child care facility is approximately 36 miles from the base. The existing facilities are located in family housing which is not convenient to the installations employment and activity center, as it is several miles away.
