The Relationship between Fish Locomotion and Morphology

This work originated from an attempt to understand the hydrodynamic features that make some fish families more maneuverable than others. A preliminary examination of several nondimensional morphological length scales of fish families has been carried out. Three kinds of families are considered those that are briskly maneuverable, those capable of high speed, and those having both of these characteristics. The general correlation between locomotion and morphology has been determined. The emphasis of the study is on the characteristics of those families that are highly maneuverable.
