Abstract:

This historical monograph of the development of the heavy bomber covers the period from the United States participation in World War I to the end of 1944. As necessary background for the Material Divisions and aircraft manufacturers accomplishments, the controversy among the Air Corps, the War Department, and the Navy Department over the heavy bombers procurement and employment is surveyed in some detail.
