Abstract:

The GTMS experiment, with the support of Dole Foods, is focused on the development of an integrated System-of-Systems SoS solution that is a combination of different systems. The architecture used will be based on Service Oriented Architecture SOA. This architecture is basically an approach that provides for the use of the Internet as an Enterprise Service Bus where various systems exchange data using standard protocols. Since the system is targeted for use by multiple commercial and military customers, it will be provided in the form of Software-as-a-Service SaaS, whereby a vendor can provide the user with the appropriate Internet access to the service, and the service is maintained by a central source. The experiment is meant to be of limited scope in the numbers of shipments, the distribution centers involved, and the number of distribution lanes involved. The data collected throughout the experiment will be processed based on various data messaging formats, which will provide the status of the shipment being monitored.
