High Speed Blood and Fluid Transfusion Equipment
Abstract:
A novel fluid warmer was developed for treating hypothermic injured soldiers. This medical device uses advanced thermal battery technology that allows for rapid heating of fluid without electric energy. Three prototype devices were built and have undergone refinement and optimization with extensive performance testing. The device can heat fluids target temperature 35-deg C - 40-deg C over a range of test conditions. It performed better than comparable units in temperature maintenance and time to reach target temperature. The devices flow rate ranged from 111 to 596 mlmin depending on setup conditions. These results confirm that this device has beneficial applications to portable rapid infusion of warmed fluids into the injured soldier.
