Overview of U.S. Navy Antisubmarine Warfare (ASW) Organization During the Cold War Era
Abstract:
As time passes, more information is being released about the coordinated and strategic antisubmarine warfare ASW conducted by the United States during the Cold War. Books and articles have begun to capture the historic context, the strategic intent, and the operational realization of this important element of the Cold War. Very little has been written about the organizational construct for ASW that evolved in conjunction with U.S. maritime strategy to meet a continually evolving Soviet submarine threat. This report presents an overview of that ASW organization, set in the broader context of U.S. Navy ASW in the Cold War.
