Defense Globalization: Impacts on the United States Defense Acquisition System

Abstract:

The objective of this MBA project is to examine the extent to which the Department of Defense has positioned itself to maximize the use of the global defense market. This report explores the recent history of commercialization and globalization initiatives and legislation details several examples of foreign technology that have significantly improved the U.S. militarys warfighting capability and analyzes the significant benefits and challenges facing the DoD in moving towards a truly global defense industry. The report concludes with a summary of the findings and further establishes a path for the cultural change that is necessary for the DoD to operate in a global defense industry.
