Military Health System Utilization Management Program at Medical Centers.

Abstract:

This audit covers utilization management UM of health care delivered in the 15 DoD medical centers MEDCENs. UM is a program designed to ensure that medical services are provided in a timely and cost-effective manner at the most appropriate level of care. This audit topic was the result of a coordinated effort by the Joint Audit Planning Group for Health Care and representatives from the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense Health Affairs OASDHA and the Military Surgeons General to develop TRICARE-related audit plans. TRICARE is DoDs managed health care program. OASDHA and Military Departments selected UM as the number one priority for audit coverage. This audit was performed as a joint effort by the Office of the Inspector General, DoD Army Audit Agency Naval Audit Service and Air Force Audit Agency.
