Mobile Multimedia Communications.
Abstract:
This report is to summarize that status of the development of mobile video teleconferencing and interpret the relevance of this work to the federal government community. The report is divided into four main parts. It contains a review of all wireless networks shich could potentially be used for the video conferencing application. Mobile networks which are discussed included cellular both analog and digital, cordless, wireless LANs, satellite, and Future Public Land Mobile Telecommunications System FPLMTS, a discussion of the standards which are relevant to mobile video conferencing. There is also a presentation of the H.324 standard which is the basic architecture of the mobile multimedia terminal. The extension of H.324 to mobile networks is included. The status of the development of wireless multimedia terminals is discussed. The types of terminals covered include work accomplished in the European community, transmission via the analog AMPS network, terminals based portable general purpose computer and special purpose devices. A review of the potential applications of wireless VTC in the federal government. Uses include teleconferencing, emergencydisaster relief and telemedicine.
