Abstract:

The purpose of this, report is to identify the doctrinal and operational mission battle tasks for close air support CAS in a low intensity conflict LIC as it is employed at the Joint Readiness Training Center JRTC, Port Polk, LA. The increased emphasis on interservice operations and the availability of the Combat Training Centers CTCs that employ Airland Battle scenarios make it both practical and worthwhile to develop an air-ground training feedback system, with the results organized into a common database that would facilitate access to information by both the Army and Air Force. This study was designed to continue the analysis of the utilization of close air support by focusing on the use of close air support in a low intensity conflict. The development, and ultimate use, of these training feedback tools provides a quantifiable basis for further training resource requirements. This report addresses the methodology for identifying those critical mission battle tasks necessary for the successful employment of close air support during low intensity operations and provides the resultant task list.
