Abstract:

Self focusing of a high power laser beam in the atmosphere and its relations with air breakdown, Stimulated Raman ScatteringSRS and thermal blooming are reviewed. The effects on the propagation through the atmosphere and the requests on designing future large practical laser systems are analyzed and discussed preliminarily.
