Injection Molding of Elastomers.

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: ADA306151 | Open PDF

Abstract:

The injection molding process for elastomers was investigated for its applicability in the fabrication of end items for Army use. A variety of elastomeric compounds was prepared and injection molded. Results indicate that most compounds which can be compression molded can also be injection molded. Rubber items having equivalent physical properties and dimensions were obtained from the two molding processes. Injection molding reduces the time required for curing eliminates the need to preform the rubber prior to molding reduces the amount of mold handling and lowers the rejection rate in comparison with compression molding.
