Cancer Prevention and Control Research Manpower Development.

Abstract:

The principal aim of this study in year one was to recruit two recent doctoral graduates for fellowships in breast cancer prevention and control research. Kangmin Zhu, M.D., Ph.D., epidemiology, and Sherry R. Crump, M.D., MPH, preventive medicine, were recruited. Dr. Zhu has worked at Meharry Medical College with Dr. Robert Levine as his mentor, while Dr. Crump has worked at the Morehouse School of Medicine with Dr. Beverly Taylor as her mentor. C.Vs of the fellows and their mentors are included in the appendix. Both fellows have made excellent progress in year one. Dr. Zhu has submitted two applications to the U.S. Army for funding 1An Intervention Study on Screening for Breast Cancer Among Single African-American Women Aged 65 and Older and 2 Breast Cancer and Risk Factors among African- American Women aged 20-54 A Case Control Study According to Estrogen Receptor Status. Dr. Crump has developed a research project Barriers to Screening Mammography Utilization for African- American Women at Grady Memorial Hospital. Funding from the Morehouse Medical Treatment Effectiveness Center has allowed recruitment of personnel for this project to begin.
