Abstract:

Atom interferometers may well be the most important development in atomic physics in the 1990s. Following the near simultaneous demonstration of four atom interferometers in 1991 CAM9 1, KAC9 1, KET9 1, RKW9 1, intense activity has been devoted to developing better atom beamsplitters ASM94 and some effort has been devoted to applying these instruments to the wide range of fundamental and applied scientific problems for which they are so well suited. In the current grant period we have developed our atom interferometer and used it to perform several novel measurements in atomic and molecular physics and also to address several fundamental questions in quantum mechanics.
