Constitutive Modeling of Concrete for Massive Concrete Structures, A Simplified Overview.

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: ADA302038 | Open PDF

Abstract:

Basic concepts and ideas pertaining to a constitutive model that is used in nonlinear, incremental structural analysis NISA of massive concrete structures are presented. The information is presented in such a manner that the practicing engineer can read the report and understand how it is used. Rigorous derivations of the equations used in the constitutive model are not included for the sake of clarity. The constitutive model contains time-dependent properties for the modulus of elasticity, creep, and shrinkage that can be calibrated against test results. A smeared crack model is also contained in the constitutive model and provides a prediction of concrete cracking based on both the stress and strain. The theory behind the equations used to model the material properties as well as the cracking criteria are presented.
