Abstract:

The U.S. Army currently seals its Quick Doff Hoods using a solvent-based liquid adhesive that is hand-painted onto the garment. The liquid adhesive takes several minutes to cure, releases solvent fumes, and produces inconsistent results. After evaluating a large number of commercially available adhesive Clemson Apparel Research located an adhesive Worthen E-9 that cures instantly, does not release harmful fumes, and can be consistently applied using conventional seam sealing technology. With associated hood design modifications the adhesive can be used to improve hood performance and production. AN
