Offshore Next Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD) Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP).
Abstract:
This document provides the test philosophy and approach for the Offshore Next Generation Weather Radar NExRAD Test and Evaluation Master Plan TEMP. The NEXRAD differs from the typical Federal Aviation Administration FAA weather radar acquisition in that it is jointly funded by the Department of Defense DOD, the Department of Commerce DOC, and the Department of Transportation DOT. These three agencies chartered the Joint System Program Office JSPO to manage the NENRAD development and subsequent test programs. JSPO has deployed 70 single-channel radar systems across the continental United States CONUS The FAA is deploying NEXRAD systems at non-CONUS offshore locations such as Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. The FAA Offshore NEXRAD will have a redundant configuration and a Remote Monitoring Subsystem EMS. A total of 14 Offshore NEXPADs will be procured under this acquisition 3 in the Caribbean, 4 in Hawaii, and 7 in Alaska. Funding constraints will limit the acquisition to seven NEXRADs in the 1994-1995 timeframe. AN
