Abstract:

The Software Risk Evaluation SRE method is used for identifying, analyzing, communicating, and mitigating software risks. The SRE method is intended to be used by decision-makers for managing the software risks of software-intensive programs and projects. The SRE method facilitates the mitigation of software risks for managers. This document reports on the Software Risk Evaluation method version 1.0 and provides a high-level description of the method. The report is intended to provide the reader with an overview of the functional components and the implementation aspects of the method. The current version of the SRE method evolved from two earlier versions. The first version was developed under a technical collaboration agreement with the Director of Defense Research and Engineering for mitigating the risks inherent in software acquisitions. The latter version was developed to improve and enhance the capabilities of the method for users in software intensive programs and projects.
