Ship Navigation Simulation Study, Sacramento River Deepwater Ship Channel Project, Phase II, Sacramento, California

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: ADA285798 | Open PDF

Abstract:

This report describes a real-time ship simulation investigation of the proposed design for improving the Sacramento River, river miles 12 to 20, California. The proposed improvements called for deepening the existing 300-ft- wide project from 30 to 35 ft. The purpose of the navigation study was to determine if the existing width was adequate for the deeper drafted vessels. A numerical model study of currents in the area was undertaken to develop the current database for the simulation. Tests were conducted with the San Francisco Bar Pilots to determine the optimum channel width. Channel design, Port of Sacramento, Deepwater channel navigation, Ship simulation
