Environmental Assessment for North Warning System (Alaska)

Abstract:

To replace the aging Distant Early Warning DEW Line System and to reduce annual operating costs, the U.S. and Canadian governments have agreed to install and operate an improved, updated radar capability. This program, termed the North Warning System NWS, includes 15 minimally attended Long Range LRR Stations, 39 unattended Short Range Radar SRR Stations, 6 Forward Supply Points FSP, and 3 Central Maintenance Facilities CMF.
