Abstract:

Central appointment systems can be an effective and efficient mechanism for ensuring that the health care provider, the patient, and the medical records arrive at the right time for a patient - provider encounter. These systems are flexible enough to allow providers to control their own schedules, expedite patients appointments, and improve the administrations planning effort by providing summary reports on staff activity and other information that can be used to ensure appropriate allocation of resources Herpok, 1980. DeWitt Army Community Hospital DACH has an automated appointment system that was fielded in 1989. The purpose of this study is to determine how the patient appointment system at DACH currently functions, compare this with how the system was designed to function, and determine the optimal functioning level for the appointment system. U.S. Army Health Services Command HSC Pamphlet 40-7-1, Medical Services Patient Appointment System, was used as a baseline for the latter parameter. Appointment systems, Access.
